In a Turkish village nestled high in the mountains, cut off from the outside world, the return of the exiled Bezarich clan reignites an old conflict over the land. During their absence, the fields were cultivated by the Hazerans, a community of serf origin who for many years had fended off raids by bandits and worked the land. Now the bounds of ownership, memory, and belonging are beginning to blur. At the heart of the story is Mesut, the elder brother of the local leader. Consumed by resentment, jealousy, and paranoia, he begins to succumb to religious fervour and interpret his nocturnal visions as a divine mission. He soon rallies a group of men around him who cloak their own aggression and prejudices in the language of community, honour, and the defence of tradition.
