Marie-Lou is the director of a retirement home in Paris, where she is trying to implement the innovative ‘Humanitude’ approach – a system of care based on genuine empathy, respect, and the sense of dignity of those in her care, rather than merely on procedures and routine. Her vision is met with pushback from some of the staff, as well as considerable pressure from the established system. Marie-Lou’s life changes forever when she encounters Mari, a Japanese theatre director battling cancer, in a park; Mari has come to Paris to stage her play.
