Premiered in Un Certain Regard at Cannes, this affecting film will feel very familiar and will ache somewhere deep in your heart. It has two main characters, but its real hero is Erika, the mother. For years she has raised her daughter Abi, now entering adolescence, and her young son on her own, trying to hold the family together while bearing Abi's obsessive longing for, and unrequited love of, the father who left them. “As in life, humour and tragedy go hand in hand,” says director Rudi Rosenberg, who explores the delicate, fragile dynamics of a family with finely drawn characters and great sensitivity in this warm, absorbing drama.
