The best film at Cannes: a gripping, harrowing family drama inspired by true events. At its centre is a couple, devoted to their traditional values, who move from Romania to a remote village among Norway's fjords. When bruises are noticed on their teenage daughter's body, both the villagers and the police begin to scrutinise the couple's faith, values and parenting. Tackling cultural clash, parenthood, polarised societies and prejudice, Fjord won Romanian director Cristian Mungiu his second Palme d'Or, after 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days (2007). It stars Sebastian Stan (The Apprentice) and Renate Reinsve (Sentimental Value), who also appeared together in A Different Man. Fjord is Romania's Oscar submission.
