An ordinary, average, mediocre man is swept up by the banality of evil and goes down in history as a shameful, commonplace villain nobody wants to remember. Winner of Best Screenplay at Cannes, the film brings to the screen the life of Henri Marre, who willingly served the fascist Vichy regime in southern France during the Second World War. Director and screenwriter Emmanuel Marre draws on the manifesto and letters written by his great-grandfather, a man who put efficiency and patriotism above everything and carried out orders without question, to tell a story that tests the limits of morality.
